The Company Secretary Course is a professional course which is conducted by "The Institute of Company Secretaries of India" i.e ICSI. There are three levels in this course The Foundation Course, Executive Programme Course, Professional Course after which the student can do self-regulating practice or else apply for the post of Company Secretary in various companies who have a paid up capital of Rs. 5 crores or more. A Company Secretary acts as an advisor for legal matters, so all legalities involved in the company are taken care of by that individual. Also, Company Secretary acts as a mediator linking the company and its Board of Directors, Shareholders, Government and regulatory authorities.

*FOUNDATION COURSE:

Duration: Duration of course is eight months.
Eligibility: Can be pursued by 10+2 pass students of Arts, Science or Commerce Stream (excluding Fine Arts).
Registration: Must register with the ICSI at least eight months in advance.

*EXECUTIVE PROGRAMME COURSE:

Duration: Duration of the course is nine months.
Eligibility: After clearing foundation course, student can appear for Executive Programme course OR It can be pursued by Graduates of all streams except Fine Arts. Candidate should not be less than 17 years of age.
Registration: Should register with the ICSI at least nine months in advance. Registration is valid for 5 years.

PROFESSIONAL COURSE:

Duration: Duration of the course is nine months prior to the month of examination.
Eligibility: After clearing Executive programme, student can appear in Professional course.
Registration: Should register with the ICSI at least nine months in advance.

when i registered for the CS programme, i had requsted to exempt me from the foundation programme as I have an MBA degree.
How do someone know if they are granted the exemption? There was no communication from the institute whether that has been updated in their records or not.
