Company Secretaries are employed by business houses and industrial concerns, both in the public and the private sectors. To be eligible for employment, one has to pass the examinations conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI).
Stages to become a Company Secretary:
The minimum eligibility to gain entry in the Foundation Course is a pass in 10+2 examination or its equivalent in any stream. The course is of 8 months duration.
Professional studies towards becoming a company secretary can commence right after completion of the plus two level of education through the foundation course. Foundation Course students are required to pass the Foundation Examination within 3 years from the day of admission. A candidate who have passed the Foundation examination or is exempted there from can seek registration as a student for the intermediate course. A registered student is admitted to the Final Course on passing the intermediate examination.
The course is primarily a distance-learning course, comprising three stages - foundation, intermediate and final. A student with a 10+2 qualification can apply for the foundation course. Meanwhile, graduates from any stream or candidates who have passed the foundation course are eligible to enroll for the intermediate course. And finally, the students who have passed the intermediate course are eligible to apply for the final year course. One can enroll for the course with the centers of the institute, which are in different cities of the country. The fees for the course would be approximately Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000. The duration of the course is three year (including the foundation course).

- Professional Programme
Admission to the CS Course is open throughout the year. Examinations are held twice a year in June & December.

Cost of Prospectus for Foundation Programme: Rs. 200/- by cash payment while Rs. 250/- by Post or courier
Cost of Prospectus for the Executive Programme: Rs. 300/- by cash payment while Rs.350/- by Post or courier
Payment Option : The payment can be sent to the Headquarters by demand draft drawn in favor of ‘The Institute of Company Secretaries of India’ payable at New Delhi OR by cash across the counter from the Headquarters, Regional Offices & a few of the Chapters.

The fee for CS Foundation Programme is - Rs. 3600/- for Executive Programme
- Rs. 7000/- for Commerce Graduates while
- Rs. 7750/- for Non Commerce Students
